Morning departure for Pemba which is a 4 hours drive and overnight at Ulala Lodge, Half board. The coastal town of Pemba lays claim to some of the finest coral reefs in all of southern Africa. Brilliantly coloured coral is but a short swim from the white sands of Wimbe Beach. Divers and snorkellers swim among a myriad of exotic fish in crystal clear water. Naturally, the profusion of seafood makes time spent here a gourmet’s delight. The beaches are wide, sandy and clean, and lined with palm trees. A coral reef protects the beach and guarantees safe swimming as well as good snorkeling.
With picnic lunch boxes you depart for Ilha de Mozambique, overnight at Villa Sand, Bed and Breakfast.

This is where modern Mozambique derived its name. Time seems to have stopped here. The pace is slow and history and culture surrounds you. For its location, it attracted a lot of merchants and it became the most important trading and shipping post to merchants and traders from Europe, Arabia, India, China and Indonesia. Like most of the Mozambican coastal towns, the mixed influence from these different ethic groups is evident in the architecture, religion, customs, social practices, religion, language, dress, dance, cuisine, architecture, language and music. Traditional dhows are still used as means of transport. Ilha de Mozambique is classified as a World Heritage Site.

One the lodge’s great attraction is the whale season which starts in July and ends in November, with the peak season in August and September. Each year the pregnant humpback whales move from the cooler Antarctic waters to the east coast of Southern African to give birth and nurture their calves, before making the voyage back down to their summer feeding grounds.
